Comment on How To Tell If You're Taking Care Of Yourself, Or Just Splurging Mindlessly by HL https://thefinancialdiet.com/tell-youre-taking-care-just-splurging-mindlessly-2/#comment-26326 Wed, 07 Feb 2018 22:12:00 +0000 https://thefinancialdiet.com/?p=25865#comment-26326 In reply to Savanna Swain.

YES, could not agree more! I hate that the popularization of this practice has led to so many people conflating self-care with self-indulgence. “Treating yourself” may offer some instant gratification, but you’re not necessarily taking care of yourself. More often than not, self-care actually involves forcing myself to do that thing I don’t want to do and am thus using “treats” to avoid.

Comment on 7 Things I Learned To Be Grateful For After Being Broke During My Job Search by Jessie https://thefinancialdiet.com/7-things-learned-grateful-broke-job-search/#comment-24849 Wed, 07 Feb 2018 21:39:00 +0000 https://thefinancialdiet.com/?p=25902#comment-24849 Thanks for this. I’ve just been through the same situation. I’ve landed a job but after paying rent and my credit card, I now have about $50 left to my name until my first pay day in a couple of weeks. It’s been an eye opening experience, and I won’t be taking things for granted anymore. I also now realize just how lucky I am to have family who support me, and friends who were willing to shout coffee because they knew I had no money and they still wanted to spend time with me. I’m going to keep the habits I’ve developed during this time (public transport, making my own coffee, bringing lunch to work) going even once I do start getting paid so I can start saving so I don’t have to be in this position again. I also can’t wait to pay back my family and friends for all their generosity over the past few months.
